Today was a long driving day. After a fruit salad and green tea breakfast, we headed off to Wutai Shan. Pulling out of Pingyao at 8:30am, stopping twice for toilet breaks and lunch, we arrived to a cold and rainy Wutai Shan at 2:30pm. My first thought driving in was that the main temple looked like the temple from Kung Fu Panda, where they keep the dragon scroll. The mountain was full of monks. Monks in saffron, monks in burgundy, monks in grey, and funnily enough a monks clothing shop. It reminded me of Goyles in Maidenhead. (Who didn't love their annual trip to Goyles? And that moment with Mum where she's looking at buying the black blazer with the embroidered school crest on the breast pocket, or buying the plain black blazer and just buying the patch to sew on. Oh Goyles) Annlee, Hamish, Bex and I went for a wander around the town. To be honest, there wasn't an awful lot there that appealed to me outside of the main temple complex. There were market stalls, all selling the same things; traditional style weapons, jewellery, artwork, lining the main road in and out of the area. Not entirely enamoured, I think Mian Shan had raised my expectations if I'm honest, I headed back early for a nap, before meeting the group downstairs for dinner in the hotel and then getting an early night.
