No more Dragoman tour group. Annlee wakes up and goes downstairs for her last breakfast. I open the curtains and realise I should probably read up on some to do stuff in Beijing. I've only just opened the book when Annlee returns holding toast butter and jam for me. She flicks on the kettle, checks her emails and gets our last Harry Potter film ready. (I decided I am going to treat myself to the Harry Potter set on my iPad so I can watch the last two films). She agreed downstairs, that we would meet Hamish and Becs in about an hour to go for a wander, before she gets her taxi to the airport and we all check out. Victoria pops in to say goodbye before she heads off to Shanghai.
Harry Potter finally finished, at 10:30am, Annlee, Michelle, Hamish, Becs and I saunter back towards the cafés, we walk along the lake, going down more alleys that we hadn't been to before. I show Becs and Hamish the menu in The Meatball Company and they say they may join for the brunch on Sunday. Walking back in the direction of the hotel, we stop at one of the cafés with a rooftop terrace for drinks and quietly sit, enjoying the view. We’re all a little tired and subdued, with the ‘end of tour’ feeling. Annlee’s taxi is booked for 1:45pm so we continue our walk to the hotel. On the walk back a beautiful women, perhaps mid thirties walks towards us. She is dressed nicely, denim skirt, white top, curled hair. Hamish and I both clock her walking toward us. All of a sudden she does the loudest, deepest hawk I've heard so far and projects a large globule of phlegm to the floors right in the middle of the road, in Hamish’s pathway. We're both speechless. I've said it before, and I’ll say it again, I cannot get used to it! I've been here four weeks and it's not getting any easier. As we get closer to the hotel, we stop for the obligatory final Chinese hamburger which we get to take away, and return to the room at 1pm.  I pack, while Annlee showers. Annlee’s taxi arrives to whisk  her off the airport and we say our goodbyes. Annlee gets a little verklumpt as she walks away. I check out at 2pm and meet Becs in the lobby, where we wait for Hamish to get back from booking their bullet train tickets. The three of us wave goodbye to Xara, get in a taxi and head to our next hostels. My hotel, Dragon King Hostel, is down a narrow, sketchy looking, road and until I see it, I'm a bit nervous that I've picked poorly. I say goodbye to Hamish and Becs, and check into the hostel. My room is nice. Big, airy, lockers, bed curtains and bedside lamp. The shower is so loud is echos and wifi doesn't appear to have connectivity issues like other places. I sit on my top bunk bed, eat a packet of beef and enjoy the fact that my time is my own again I can be as lazy as I want. I try to order the Harry Potter films and realise that my wifi hasn't been set up. The hostel has the same password process as the other Beijing hotel- it's my passport number, so I need to wait for someone to set it up. I sit in the lobby using the general wifi and start downloading the movie and get my blog up to date for the whole afternoon.
